Underground Lab - Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2

The Underground Lab was my first assignment on the project. I jumped into an early blockout and continued to work closely with Amy Lee (Level Design), was provided with a bit of narrative framing and given art direction to instill a creeping sense of dread and isolation within a murky victorian-esque experimental Lab. The consistent colour scheme was always that evil 'dentist green' with red as the accent, and sometimes that inverted. So the materials and choices I made were in support of that, and the black and white check surfaces served to add interest without too much noise. The 'Vat Room' with the huge blood tanks really pushed my capacities to deliver on scale and intricate mechanical logic, without over-cluttering to keep the space clear to navigate as a combat arena. I created a modular kit for the walls, floors and archways of the Lab. Sinking the wall panels backwards allowed for a ribcage feel to the corridor archways and pillars, which accentuated the lighting highlights and sense of parallax. Great for hiding nasty things behind too.

Work done as follows - Art blockout, 1st, 2nd passes through to Release, for hull and detail dressing and storytelling, creation of modular kit and custom materials, black and white tile material in Designer, kitbashing heavy industry components, new vat asset creation, global colour palette and texturing pass on hull and dressing assets, surface decals and vert painting, streaming setup, optimising and bugfixing.

With great thanks to my Env Art Leads on this one, Toby Hunt and Genesis Asis. Art Direction by Ben Matthews, Asset support by Sumo Pune team.
